What the grant is worth

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a government grant for replacing fossil-fuel heating with a heat pump in England and Wales. Ofgem runs it for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

£7,500Ground or water source

Grant and discount, in one price

On every heat pump installation through the scheme, the grant is applied for your employee and the scheme discount comes on top.

Step 01

Your employee asks for a quote

Through the scheme, from a vetted, MCS-certified installer who surveys the home.

Step 02

The installer applies for the grant

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is installer-led. The installer checks eligibility and applies to Ofgem on the homeowner's behalf.

Step 03

Both savings are already on the quote

The grant comes off the price, and the scheme discount applies on top. No forms to fill in and no waiting for money back.

Who can get the grant

The installer confirms eligibility during the survey, before the quote is final. These are the government's main rules.

The scheme is also backed by £2.7bn of funding to 2030 under the government's Warm Homes Plan.

  • The home is in England or Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own schemes.
  • The property owner applies, including landlords and owners of second homes.
  • The new system replaces fossil-fuel heating, such as gas, oil, LPG, coal or electric.
  • One grant per property.
  • No grant for hybrid systems (for example a gas boiler with a heat pump) or for replacing an existing low-carbon system.
  • Maximum size of 45kWth for a single system, or 70kWth when more than one heat pump is fitted together.
  • The installer must be MCS-certified and the system must meet minimum efficiency standards.
